Dottie:

I have a quick question for you. I have just been put on Cipro for a bladder infection. I always read the side effects page from the Pharmacy so that I know what to expect if for some reason I have a reaction to a new med. Cipro and all of the fluoroquinolone class antibiotics have a warning that its use "could" cause tendonitis or tendon rupture. I have taken Levaquin before with no problems, but I was not exercising as intense at the time I took the antibiotic.

Right now I am exercising 5-6 times a week. I have been able to comfortably exercise for an hour or more. I have been working on increasing my weights and intensity of my workout. I love that I can exercise again. It is my hour to focus on me and not all the other things in my life. I call it my "therapy" or sanity time! LOL!

My question is this: have you ever taken Cipro, Levaquin or any of the other fluoroquinolone antibiotics while training? Did you ever have any tendon issues? If you did take these types of antibiotics, did you take it easy for while you were on them? From what I have read the side effect on your tendons can extend beyond just the time period that you are taking the med. I don't know for how long, but I would imagine it would depend on the dosage and length of time you took the med.

I know you are not a pharmacist, but I just wanted to see if you had any experience with this kind of antibiotic. It's a pretty popular one as it is a broad spectrum antibiotic and used for many kinds of bacterial infections.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!!
