Question by Rise'

My first question is:   I feel that i can exercise daily.  I find that I need to snack prior to and after my workouts. Is this adviseable to snack prior to working out?  I will have a tiny snack with protein and  carbs.

A. Hi Rise', Yes, it is good to have some quality nutrition before working out.  I find that it is best to do this about 20-30 minutes prior to your workout so your stomach has a little time to settle and absorb the food before you ask your body to focus on "moving" and training.  Your energy should be focused on each thing seperately.  A small amount of protein and some complex carbs is great,. maybe an apple and peanut butter, a small protein shake, ..etc.

next question- how many times per week is adviseable for someone getting back into lifting light weights(2x or 3 times per week)

A. It depends on your current health, injury status, etc. But typically I would say first and foremost-"Listen to your body"  and do what it asks.  If it is "hurting while you are training, cut it down and give it more rest.  If it feels good and adapts to what you are doing, continue and ask a little more of it"  3 x a week is a good start and as long as you are lifting light weights appropriately, you can do a small amount every day or every other.  It really depends on your life style, your goals you want to achieve.  and again, most importantly, what your body is saying to you.  Listen to it and you will know!   It is actually safe to train some every day as long as you are resting and recovering appropriately.  Coming back from an injury taking it slow and seeing how you adapt is best.  Three time a week the first week then every other day is a good plan.  Hope this helps and keep up the GREAT work!

next question-  Can you do pushups daily?

A.  I think it is OK to do push ups daily is you would like.  My suggestion would be to make sure you are in proper position and you are keeping your form through entire session-once you feel like you are losing propoer position from fatique, stop and rest.  I wouldnt over do this but doing a few sets of 10 push ups at a time would be ok to do every day-AGAIN...as long as your body is adapting to this and not showing signs like pain in a specific area or a large amount of fatique-then REST and take some days off!

Thanks for the questions Rise' keep EMPOWERING yourself to LIVE LIFE FULLY!
