Empower yourself through moving, it doesnt have to be a race...
I read a blog post today about someone who was struggling with thier health issues and wondering if there little bit of exercise they can do even mattered...Of course, I had to share about this....
YES, it matters, YES it makes a difference.
Look, I am not sure when it because the norm to run miles and miles or train in a gym for 2 hours at a time but that is not what the importance or, celebration, of moving for life is all about. Yes, as an athlete, we train for purpose-to do well in our competitions of the sport we do-Thats awesome and great fuel to motivate us to do so. However...there is a greater fuel all of us has...its called LIFE and the ability to LIVE IT and to be able to ENJOY IT.
If we train for perfection..thats a good goal to achieve to but we first must train for performance-performance to breathe, to function, to do, to live. We must find the spark inside us that will not be allowed to go out no matter how hard things become. It is up to us to find that and keep it going. Did you hear that, it starts with US. Our own personal decison that we have to make, that we can make..thats a good thing. We get to choose-and no matter how hard things are right now, we still get that choice. Make a choice to move each day-you will make a difference with your own wellbeing.
I will never forget when I thanked my lung transplant surgeon for saving my life back in 1994. I was still in ICU and had just had the breathing tube removed ealrier in the day. I looked up at him with tears and said "Thank You for saving my life" He rested his "god given gifted hand" on my shoulder and said, "I didnt save your life, you did by keeping yourself in the shape you did"
At that very moment I knew all of the times I walked on that treamill , all of the hours I spent in my weight room doing what i could, all the times I got back up and started again...had been worth it. Whether it was for 2 minutes or 2 hours, doing what i could do each day and forcing myself to start had brought me to this very moment. I have never looked back since. Many times, I have been brought to my knees again...each and every time I have gotten up to keep going. We must.
So, you see, whatever it is you can do at this very moment -DO IT. Start Today. And celebrate it. There is not right or wrong when you decide to move for your health, for your Whole -Body Wellbeing. What is wrong is not believing in yourself and not doing anything. What is right is just doing it, whatever it is you can do and setting your goals to the next day to do more.
I teach my kids I train and coach ...and anyone else I work with whether it is a professional athlete or the second grader to first do your sport, your training, because You Can and because you Love It. Then, the rest will follow from that emotion.
Now if you do not "love what you are doing" find someting you do like to do and move doing that or connect what you do to a feeling of pride, of accomlishment like how I did when i walked on that treadmill not being able to breathe. I wanted to run, to run fast....but I could only walk very slowly..but I did it, and it made me feel powerful when I was done.
When you do that and come form a place of gratitude for wherever you are in life and your ability at this moment, that my friends, is power, strength, fuel for that spark inside you...
So I say to anyone today who is feeling like they cant or what they can currently do is not enough, You Can and It Is, for I am alive today because of it.
In Health, Happiness and much Gratitude,
Dottie
